The Photo:
I finally got to use my new Photo Studio & Lighting kit that my fiance got my for Christmas! However, I discovered that one of the light cables does not work, so we are going to take that in tomorrow to see if I can get a replacement. In post processing I used Photoshop Lightroom to deepen the red and take out some of the yellow – Voilà!
My Week
I had an excellent start to 2011! Woke up on Sunday with a houseful of friends and went straight to the Reagle Beagle for some Sunday brunch. We then went for a stroll in Gastown with Alex and Joel, friends of mine visiting from Sweden. On Monday a large group of us went to the States for some shopping. I got a sweater, a jacket, Lululemon tights for silk, and some Nine West boots! I love shopping in the states and cannot wait to go again! On Tuesday I went back to work, and then met up with my girls for one last night on the town with Alex. I spent Wednesday morning with my Dad, whom I took to SIR Modern Barbershop for a make-over. We were there for a good 2 hours while the stylist chopped off his straggly long hair and shaved his big yucky beard off. It was the best gift I had ever given as he could not stop smiling!
After having lunch with my new, 20 years younger, Dad, I went to the Body Worlds Exhibit with Stew. This was extremely overwhelming, and very interesting. I could not believe the plastinated fetuses on display. I did not know that a fetus at merely 8 weeks old is already a mini baby, with little fingers and toes. People thinking about abortion after week 7 should be aware of this, since in some countries it is legal to abort for up to 24 weeks. I have never been against abortion, but this has given me new reservations.
After the Body Worlds Exhibit I went to my first silk class of 2011. I got to try out my new tights and I am learning to climb the silk, so I will be out of the knot soon! From silk I went to Alex’s house to say bye to her and Joel. They flew back on Thursday, and I spent the next few days working and relaxing. It was a good chance to catch up on sleep and household activities. I am ready for my next semester to start on Monday, laundry done and food in the fridge for lunches. I am going to go snowboarding tomorrow and enjoy the last day of no homework.
Highlights of the week:
- Sunday’s Brunch.
- Girls Night with Graham.
- Make-over for Dad.
- Body Worlds Exhibit.
- Back to Silk.
- Spending lots of time with Alex, who agreed to be one of my bridesmaids while she was here.

Excellent! Nicely done. I really like all the textures on the apple skin.

I love this shot! And, thanks for explaining your steps. It’s interesting to see what your settings were and your workflow.

I’ve been thinking of taking a photo just like this (I’ve even already bought the apple). Not sure mine – if it ever sees the light of day – will look as good as this however.
