Great Glen Way: South Laggan to Altsigh, 23.5 miles.

It was so nice to wake up in a bed!! We got back on the Way straight after breakfast. Today was the longest day, the first half of the day from South Laggan to Fort Augustus was a very nice walk through forest paths along Loch Oich and then alongside the Caledonian Canal.

We stopped for lunch in Fort Augustus then headed on and the rest of the day was terrible. The walks go uphill into the forest, there were no good views and it felt miserable. There was a beautiful Thomas Telford bridge in Invermoriston that we stopped to photograph.

With swollen feet and aching bodies we settled into another youth hostel for the night, this one your standard run-of-the-mill SYHA hostel.

5 positives for day 3:

  1. Woke up in a nice bed.
  2. Gorgeous sunny day!
  3. Hiked 19 miles.
  4. Beautiful views of Loch Ness.
  5. Had an amazing Shower!
