Great Glen Way: Fort William to Gairlochy, 10.5 miles.

Today we got up at 7am to catch the train to Fort William where we started the Great Glen Way. The Great Glen Way runs for 77 miles along Glen More between Fort William and Inverness. In 2008 we hiked the West Highland Way 93 miles from Glasgow to Fort William so this is the continuation.

It was 2pm by the time we started Day One and the route takes you right alongside the Caledonian Canal to Gairlochy. We had to hike 1 mile out of the way to a campsite where there were no facilities but the lady lent me a hot water bottle. It was rainy and very windy so we thought the tent was going to collapse!

5 positives for day 1:

  1. Didn’t have to work.
  2. Started The Great Glen Way.
  3. Exchanged GB pounds to CAN dollars.
  4. Hiked 12 miles.
  5. The campsite lady lent me a hot water bottle.
