I had the best day today! Stew watched the football this morning and then we attempted to get the bus to Horseshoe Bay to go to Bowen Island. The transit was crazy since it was the start of the long weekend so instead we went to Granville Island. We wandered around, had dinner and drinks on the patio at Sammy J Peppers and watched the sunset.  We then went to The Bourbon to watch a friend play is first set of his gig and now its bed time.

Does anyone have any tips on what settings I could change or equipment I could purchase that would have helped make this a better photo? I did not have a tripod so I set the camera on a ledge and I used the 5 second self-timer, I did not use a flash.

6 Positives:

  1. Enjoyed the day with my fiancé.
  2. Went to Granville Island and Stew bought me a new jumper on the way.
  3. Ran into Lisa.
  4. Had Blackened Chicken Penne Pasta and yummy drinks.
  5. Watched the sunset.
  6. Went to a friends country music show at The Bourbon.

It’s a wonderful shot that you can only get from long time exposures, love the saturated colors and golden tones that only come from this type of photo. To be done without a tripod is amazing, but I wish you had more foreground and less sky to improve the composition a little. Still a geat shot as is, and fair warning that this kind of thing can get addictive 🙂

looks fab! what a wonderful evening scene.

i can’t see what your settings were.. but perhaps stopping down a tad more so that you get a bit more detail… and i am also a fan of the light stars.. you would get more of that if you stopped it down all the way.

The settings are in my description,
    NIKON D3000 5.0s Focal Length: 18.0mm f/10.0 ISO: 200 (M).

So f/29.0 would have given me more detail? Thanx for the tip, I am still learning 🙂
